Limbic System
The limbic system is a group of structures in the brain involved in regulating emotions and memory. The main structures part of the limbic system include
Amygdala : Process emotions, like fear and anger
2. Hippocampus : Plays role in spatial navigation and formation of memories
3. Thalamus : Relay station for sensory information, also helps regulate emotions.
4. Hypothalamus : Regulate basic physiological functions and body temperature. Also plays a key role in emotional reponse to stimuli.
5. Cingulate Cortex : Involved in emotion processing and formation, aswell as memory and the ability to learn.
6. Septal Nuclei : Involved in the processing of reward and pleasure, acts according to dopamaine stimuli from other structures in the brain.
These are the key parts of the Limbic System.
The Limbic System connects the cortex with more primitive areas of the brain, this allows for emotions to be responded to rationally. It is also key in behavioral responses to survival, such as the Fight or Flight response.
